When I was so rudely interrupted by your built in refusal to allow the page to be released to go forward. I am thinking of optaining another kindle book so I can avoid this. You forced me to break my train of thought. I couldn’t leave the page until I gave u a review. I don’t like being held hostage on my on device! I hope you are happy now at this review!!!!! • 3.0 out of 5 stars from David Souza -- It would be nice if there was a modern translation for today's audience : I found this collection quite interesting, particularly the Gospels. It certainly underscores the fact that the inclusion of books in the Bible was determined through a deliberative process and not all stories or manuscripts were not approved. Knowing these works that were rejected gives insight to the spiritual politics of the times and the struggle to define Christianity in the immediate centuries after Jesus. The translation is antiquated and it maintains a King James Version-like tone, even though it is readable. It would be nice if there was a modern translation for today's audience. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from J. Mitchell -- Of Questionable Value : This is more a discussion, from a protestant point of view, as to why these writing are not integrated into the Canon of the Bible. Being a Catholic, I see nothing wrong with reading these writings, but I understand why they are not accepted as 'inspired' by the Catholic or most other 'Christian' Churches. There were a few moments that were especially beautiful which spoke to me. It's a simple and quick read for added depth of understanding or personal reflection. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from FiddleLizzie -- These Gospels and Epistles ought to be read regularly. : Sure, these are the books that didn't make the 'cut' when the Canon was compiled. That said, these are writings from the earliest Christians, and even if they aren't in the Canon doesn't mean we should shun them or ignore them. Our Christian faith was given to us through the very work of these faithful, and their writings and understanding can enrich the understanding of what makes Christianity work in the life of the faithful even today. The Saints of old are in so many ways just like the faithful today, and these writings are a treat. This is one collection among many available today. There is little difference that I could see between the many offerings that can be found today, but I am not a theologian. In truth, the price was right, the readability is high, and while there may be some minor inconveniences for some Kindle users, I generally ignore these and simply plow on.
